It was another frosty one out there this morning. I spent a lot of time trying to figure out what to do to get this story started.

Possibility: Ishmael has a drunken sexual encounter with one of the gold diggers that have been stalking him, and fails/is impotent because of memories of Greta’s murder. He’s not able to exorcise the demon and have a fulfilling relationship until Herring is captured/killed.
That just does not seem like Nathan’s style…
Captain, could it be that the story needs some jumps in the timeline, I realize that there is a jump from the end of Ashes to the start of Fire, however in both Full and Owner’s share you cover large amounts of time with just some general descriptions, maybe that is the path you need to avoid the 30K of words meandering all over the place. Not sure but maybe Ish and Pip spend 6-9 months bouncing around Toe-Hold building a rep and for some reason that rep is damaged or challenged and someone from Ish’s past is part of that issue?
Random thoughts on fire:
Fire of the body-1) physical love as noted by Robert; 2) explosion in space. His worst fear of the Chernakoyva’s past coming back in catastrophic system failure.
Fire of the mind: sudden revelation of truth about anything. What does Kurt know?
Fire of the soul: understanding betrayal by Pip.
