As much as I sympathize with your desire to help your wife out with her gift list, I KNOW that it is not a good idea to try and “tough it out” for six weeks with this pain in your hand. You may be doing damage every day, and once the damage has reached a certain point surgery may be the only option. Using a split keyboard, wearing a wrist brace,etc.,are all strategies that may help avoid permanent damage and surgery.
Tell your wife you want a cashmere balaclava for Chirstmas! That should keep her busy for a while!

I agree that its about momentum and staying with the process. I have a client who is a swimmer and a writer and when he thinks about stopping the writing we just talk about staying in the pool.
