I “won” NaNoWriMo last night – 7k on the day and went past 50k total words. Not a record for NaNo (2011: 7 days to 50k) but a nice relaxed pace to writing a whole novel in a month.

That’s great news about the 50K! Is it looking like this might be something that is doable for you as a regular thing for next year? Do you see yourself writing like this for 6 months of the year and then publishing it and doing other things like audio during the other 6 months? Or would it be more like 4 times a year with 2 months between each writing month for publishing and other things? I think that you will want to get it set in your mind what is good before next year begins. You’ll be able to tell more after next month is over and you see what you have got done with that month as well. And then you’ll have a feel for whether you are ready to dive into another month like this one.
Yes, Anita. One of my goals with this month was to find a pace that I could keep at long enough to finish a book without feeling like I’d been put through a wringer. That means I need to have time to do other stuff and still make the deadlines.
5k a day is doable. When I salt in a few 6k and 7k days that’s bonus, but even when I have days like to day (2800 words) that’s not an insurmountable stumble. I’m looking at 100k by the 24th now but the truth is that this book may not actually run 100k. When the book is done, so am I and I can move on to new challenges.
So far, the experiment seems to be working very well indeed.
