As for the treadmill, watching videos works well in my experience. For quite some time, I’ve been walking a little over two miles on the treadmill while watching an hour-long drama on Netflix (reduced to 42 minutes w/o commercials). I don’t watch much TV otherwise, so this is really my only way to catch up on all those great series everyone’s been talking about, e.g. Luke Cage, Agents of Shield, iZombie, Supernatural, etc.
If I was only going for one mile, I’d probably watch a 30-minute sit-com as it would be reduced down to about 21 minutes. An aerobic pace would take me past the one-mile mark, but only a little.
Of course, I have many more one-hour dramas on my “must see” list than 30-minute sit-coms.
Also, I’d love a bonus picture of the poor flagging monk post. I’m not sure how you’ll swing that in the middle of the walk, but if you find yourself in the area some other time, it would be cool. I somehow find myself wincing in sympathy for the poor thing.
